Bedroom Refresh on a Budget
Alright, I’ve got a weird secret. I absolutely refuse to buy anything at full price. Not even toilet paper. It either has to be on sale, have a coupon, or be a weekly Target Cartwheel offer. And for things that aren’t deemed “necessities”, if it’s over $10 (even on sale), I think about it for days before actually taking the leap. My boyfriend thinks it’s the strangest thing, to which I respond, “I’m thrifty! Count your blessings, man!”
Where the struggle comes in, is when you couple my cheapness with my decor ADD — yes, that’s a thing lol. Every now and then, I get tired of the vibe I’ve got going in a certain room or area and no longer feel joy in those spaces. If you’ve jumped onto the Marie Kondo train (life changing book turned new Netflix series), you know how important it is for your space and belongings to spark joy in your life. When they no longer do, it’s time to part with them. Your home is your refuge, your safe space — it should be the place that brings you joy! So when I started feeling that my bedroom no longer reflected me and where I am in my life, a refresh was in order.
I’d had my metal bed for about 6 years; the majority of my 20s. I turned 31 last fall and wanted a space that more accurately portrayed that. Not to say that being in your 30s means ridding your bedroom of color, but for me it was about achieving a more “mature” ~lewk~. One that says, “a fierce, independent woman in her 30s sleeps here!”
So let’s get right down to it! The two things I wanted to switch up were the bed and the rug. Luckily, I had this life revelation in November allowing Black Friday to shine in all its glory. I got the rug on Black Friday sale for 60% off!! An 8×10 for only $144 — if that’s not a steal, I don’t know what is. And the upholstered platform bed for only $135 at 70% off.
For smaller things I always try to “shop” my house before buying something new. You’d be surprised what just moving furniture and accessories around to different rooms can do to make things suddenly feel exciting again! I moved the pink rocker from my room to my daughter’s room and the green arm chair from the living room to my room. All of a sudden, things just flowed so much better and everything felt brand new! The end result achieved exactly what I was going for and I can happily say that this room is sparking all the joy again!
